What would happen if you spent the first hour of your day without looking at your phone?
At the office, you felt focused while completing your most important work?
At home, you were fully present with your loved ones?
And before heading to bed, you practiced a routine that brought you peace?
. . .
Every year, Coach Margie and The Thirlby Company host a one-week Mindfulness Challenge with our community. This complimentary program is a social media “detox” of sorts that provides you with an opportunity to slow down, gain awareness of your habits and needs, and recenter on your values with the support of a professional coach and encouraging community.
The 2023 Mindfulness Challenge will run from November 6 - 12. After the challenge is over, we’ll gather for a community call on November 13 at 3 pm MST to share our learnings and set intentions for the future.

Registration for this year’s Mindfulness Challenge has officially closed! If you’re interested in joining us for our next quarterly challenge, please be sure to sign up for The Thirlby Co. monthly newsletter to receive invitations in the future.
Our next challenge will run the week of January 29, 2024. Stay tuned for the BIG announcement about the name of our brand new challenge early next year!

“The moment you check email, read the news, or surf social media, someone else’s priorities jump in front of yours. Do you think that Bill Gates and Oprah are lying in bed scrolling through social feeds? Nope, and neither should you.” - Mel Robbins, The 5 Second Rule
“Stop filling all the spaces. With stuff. With automatic habits. With social media. With food. With alcohol. With distraction. With impulse shopping. Stop filling all the spaces because that’s where we disconnect from ourselves, our feelings, our presence, our connection, our values, our needs.” - Tory Eletto, LMFT
FAQs
What is the Mindfulness Challenge?
The Mindfulness Challenge is one of The Thirlby Company’s quarterly community challenges that celebrate our company values. Four times a year, we come together for one week to focus on a particular area of our life that enhances our personal and professional development. For the fall challenge, we are focusing on mindfulness - bringing more peace and presence into our lives.
What exactly am I signing up for?
The Thirlby Co. challenges are only one week long. During the challenge, you receive an email from Coach Margie each day, inviting you to try a simple task (ex: go for a walk without your phone). The email will provide you with helpful coaching tools and resources for you to save and use in the future. After the challenge, we come together for an optional community call to celebrate and share our learning.
But do I seriously have to delete my apps? I’m scared.
I hear you, friend. During the Mindfulness Challenge, we are encouraging you to get honest with yourself (without judgment) about your habits, and whether or not they are bringing joy and peace to your life. For this reason, we encourage all participants to remove the social and news apps from their phones that they use on a regular basis. For most of our participants, this includes Instagram, TikTok, the New York Times, and Twitter (X). Your apps might be different.
What challenges do I have to do each day, and how much time should I budget?
When you sign up for the challenge using the sign-up form above, you’ll receive a confirmation email with the essential details. A few days before the challenge, you’ll receive a more detailed email with a preview of what you can expect. We design our challenges to last about 10-15 minutes each day. This includes reading the morning email and completing the activity for the day. We recommend putting a daily block on your calendar ahead of time so you can make the investment in yourself and allow time for your own reflection.
What if I can’t do a challenge activity on a certain day?
The challenges are designed with intentionality and flexibility. If you have a schedule challenge or unexpected obstacle, you can absolutely get creative and swap the days you do the activities, or do two on the same day. In addition, if there is any challenge you cannot complete due to physical or financial limitations, you can email us for a modification.
How much does the challenge cost?
All of our quarterly challenges are FREE! The Thirlby Company is proud to provide a complimentary challenge every quarter to make our coaching work an inclusive and accessible opportunity for all humans who are interested in taking their lives and careers to the next level.
Can I invite friends?
Absolutely! The more the merrier. Please note that each of your friends must register for the challenge in order to receive the participation guide and our daily emails.
Can kids participate?
Kids are more than welcome! However, our challenges (and the daily emails) are geared towards individuals 14 and older. You can have your kids participate with you as long as there are particular activities that you feel are safe and appropriate for them to do.
Can my company participate?
You are more than welcome to pass on this registration page to your colleagues at work so they can register with you. Should your company wish to do a challenge as a team on a different week, please contact us to learn about bringing a Thirlby Co. Challenge to your business. We offer both self-guided and facilitated models.
Testimonials
“The Mindfulness Challenge was amazing! I've formed new habits, freed myself from ones that no longer served me, and approach social media and my relationship to my phone in a new way - in just one week! Margie's daily emails and support and the group accountability made the challenge educational, fun, and incredibly valuable.” - Laurie
“I loved the challenge! Margie provided a great guide for the week and awesome daily tips which I enjoyed. Margie offers positive, professional, and relatable leadership. She’s firm and sensitive in her direction. And she did the challenge too! I wish Margie and the Thirlby Co. had been available when I ran my company. She would have been a positive and stimulating motivator to my employees giving them insight into HOW to be more successful and productive!” - Ellen
“I went into this challenge thinking ‘Sure, I could use to spend less time scrolling instagram,’ and came out realizing just how much my phone controlled my day! There were so many times when I unlocked my phone and paused to realize "I do not have any reason to be checking my phone right now"! I really appreciated the gentle tips and reflection activities Margie gave along the way. It was very clear that this challenge was in no way meant to shame, only to bring awareness to our habits and relationship with technology. I truly think everyone in our current day and age would benefit from participating.” - Amber
“The Mindfulness Challenge was both challenging AND fun. It was a huge lesson in personal awareness; I didn't know how distracted I was by my phone (email, texts, social media) until I set my phone aside. I especially enjoyed replacing some of my screen time with the daily challenges; it's so important to give ourselves permission to do activities that give us pleasure and connection such as reading, calling a friend, or dancing to fun music. Thank you Margie!” - Kelly
“The Mindfulness Challenge was an unexpected delight where I gained insights about myself and my habits, got to try new things, and got to meet new people. The week-long challenge was thoughtfully constructed and supportive. I'd happily do this (or any other challenge from Margie) again!” - Erin
“The Mindfulness Challenge helped me to take small but meaningful action in my own life, thanks to the structure and support of a group behind me. I know the positive reverberations of this challenge will last way beyond the week itself!” - Kate
